Wilderness Wear have been designing and manufacturing merino wool socks in Melbourne since 1989. Originally we designed hiking socks, however over the years we’ve expanded our range into trail running, cycling, skiing along with casual wear and work socks. Our most popular & iconic sock is the merino fleece range which have been trusted by the Australian Antarctic Division and is arguably Australia’s most comfortable and warmest sock.
When comparing brands, you’ll notice that Wilderness Wear socks feature a higher % of merino wool and our merino is 100% Australian and is blended with nylon and lycra for durability. For those men that suffer from blisters whilst hiking or trail running we’ve developed a blister free range of socks featuring Profilen®.

Sock Range Features

WildernessWool™
Sourced from the highest grade merino wool from specific growers in Tasmania who have been selectively breeding sheep for generations. It is great that the provenance is clear and that a product range of this quality level can be truly referred to as completely Australian.

Profilen®
Profilen® is PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene). It has an extremely low friction coefficient. Profilen® yarns decrease friction to reduce the formation of blisters and abrasions and 5% of this yarn is added to our Merino wool eXtreme range of socks to ensure your hiking adventures are blister free.

Climayarn®
Merino Fusion Climayarn® provides multiple benefits including the elimination of sweat (rapid dry time), heat preservation at low temperatures and the prevention of heat caused by hiking in warmer temperatures. This blend really does combine the advantages of natural merino wool with the performance & strength of polypropylene.

Coolmax®
Coolmax® fibres are engineered to transport moisture away from the foot to keep you cool and dry during high aerobic and endurance activities.

Celliant®

Celliant recycles human energy. Heat emitted by the body is absorbed by the thermo-reactive minerals in the fibre. Transferred back as infrared light, it penetrates deep into the tissues to increase circulation, oxygen and blood flow.
