Katie Visco & Henley Phillips
Katie Visco is originally from Chicago, Illinois, USA. She loves people, trails, and human-powered adventures! In 2009, promoting the importance of a bold and passion-driven life, Katie ran solo across America, from Boston to San Diego, and became the 2nd youngest and 13th woman overall to make the crossing. She spoke with more than 200 audiences along the way to encourage people to leap towards their dreams.
Katie also has 10+ years of experience as a community-builder and entrepreneur. She has started several businesses, and is currently the proud owner and soup maestra behind Hot Love Soup, a soup and bone broth delivery company in Austin, Texas and now also in Missoula, Montana.
Starting July 13, 2019, she will begin her long-awaited dream of running across Australia, 2,100 miles from Darwin to Adelaide. Instead of vehicle support, her husband Henley Phillips will be pedaling a bicycle full 400 pounds of our gear, food, and water.
Henley Phillips would describe himself as someone who experiences life most fully when challenging himself in the outdoors. After returning home to Texas from almost three years in Central America as a Peace Corps volunteer, he met Katie through shared running circles.
The next year Henley set out from Guatemala City on his bicycle with the intention of cycling Central America, South America and parts beyond. Three short weeks later, his bike was stolen in the middle of the night leaving him stranded in the middle of a soccer field. Things worked out, though, and after some work as a backpacking guide for Quetzaltrekkers, Henley returned once again to the U.S.A. to hike the Pacific Crest Trail in 2014 to raise money for this same organization. His hike of the PCT inspired him to spend the next three years working with teenage boys as a wilderness therapy field lead in the deserts and mountains of Utah, a place he will always love.
In Australia, Henley is excited to sort out the logistics to safely support Katie as they cross the Outback and to help her finally cross off a long-held passion project.
